The Exchange Japan 2012 project group wishes to extend their deepest gratitude and a heartfelt congratulations to our partner project Magnetism of Sweden, whose hard work, dedication and enthusiasm ensured that this year’s Sweden Day event would be a success. Thank you all!

One Year After

March 11, 2012 in News, Stories

As we mark the passing of one year since the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake, our thoughts go out to all those affected by the catastrophe. Much has been done to mend the devastation left in the wake of the tsunami, but scars still remain, as these pictures attest. In addition, the crisis and lingering problems at the Fukushima-Daiichi power plant have put the future of nuclear energy policy worldwide into question.

The immediate effects of the events of March 11 2011 were terrifying in scope. Its longer-lasting implications are yet to be seen. However, while those fateful weeks of 2011 conjure up images of sheer and utter destruction, they are as much defined by the courage, determination and solidarity of Japanese society. The natural disasters were shocking, but the Japanese response was awe-inspiring. How’s that for shock and awe?
