Sit back and enjoy the trip into the world of Ghibli when Exchange Japan invites you to Grand Cinema for a special viewing of the enchanting movie Princess Mononoke. Swedish audiences have already been treated to the magical worlds of Hayao Miyazaki in the form of the Academy Award winning masterpiece Spirited Away, and the currently running The Secret World of Arrietty. Princess Mononoke predates both titles, but enjoyed vast success upon its release in Japan and attracted an all star voice acting cast for its English translation. It is a tale of the industrialized future at odds with the natural and feral past, told in the distinct style and imagery that is the hallmark of Studio Ghibli. Set in a country not unlike Edo-era Japan, it follows the path of one Prince Ashitaka, whose quest to rid himself of a terrible curse brings him right in the middle of a veritable conflict of nature. One on side stands the indomitable Lady Eboshi, whose charge is an ironworks and all its people, and on the other side the ancient spirits of the forest and the elusive Princess Mononoke.
Viewers who are interested in acquaining themselves further with Japanese movies, and animation titles in particular, are encouraged to seek out other Studio Ghibli titles, such as Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, and My Neighbour Totoro, whose main character you might have spotted around this website.
